set 1
For my first set I'm planning to take a set of photos around objects and try to distort them either by doing something with the camera like changing the focus point or setting the camera on manual and experimenting with the Aperture. I hope to achive some simillar style to that of Van Gogh's work; blending bold colours and 'blurring' paintings. I could do this during post-processing by adding blur effects and change the hue/saturation effects so nly bold earthy colours like blue , green ,red etc. I’m going to use lighting so I can have a clear photo and also use a soft box so anything unwanted in the background isn’t seen and so the studio’s light will light up most the object I want to photograph . To get the distorted look on my images I’m going to put my camera on manual so if I shake it the image will come out blurred. I’m also going to experiment by using the flash and seeing if it distorts the image somehow. I’m also going to use post-processing to distort the photos ,in post-processing I’m going to mainly focus of things that will alter, distort or change the images because it will link with my topic which is “changed”.
This is my first set of photos for my topic changed. I choose to take photos of plants and marbles as a starting point for the project because I can alter the colors and the way they look overall. I manipulated these photos by slightly shaking the camera and using the flash but shining light directly into the camera lens to create different ‘natural’ filters. I also tried Bokeh in some photos but it didn’t work out as moving the focus point on the camera and then taking the photo doesn’t exactly work because it just blurred the whole photo. This set was successful because it will help me develop these ideas further in the next sets and in the final piece. The unsuccessful part was that not all of the photos became blurred or distorted when I did these things so I’m hoping to distort them in post-processing.
I took these photos to help me start somewhere; I took these with the intention of getting a set so I could develop ideas around them for my topic. This was successful because it’s given me some idea about where to go from here. I took these photos with my camera on manual so I could experiment with the aperture and ISO. This experimenting was pretty useful, as now I know how to get really different photos like the one in the middle and how drastically it changes just by changing one thing. I took these photos inside a soft box while having a studio light shine into it from different angles. I done this so nothing in the background took too much attention away from the thing I was photographing. I took inspiration of taking photos of the flowers from Vincent van Goah’s paintings of flowers. One thing I could improve on is the actual quality of the photo; making it less blurred. IN post-processing I’m going to look at different effects and shadings for the photos.
I post-processed these photos by experimenting with HDR Toning. This means I adjusted the Edge glow, tone and detail. After this, I also altered the photo’s shadow, highlight, vibrancy and saturation. The outcome I hoped to achieve was making the dead flowers look more alive by making the shadows around it as bright as possible and drastically changing the saturation. This was successful because it made the flower look more full of life and colorful and less tiresome and colorless. Next time, I post-process I’m going to look at things like layering and filters to make my post-processed photos different and original, instead of them being repetitive.
