Prep work
This is half of my set for my prep work as the other half will be taken at home but from this first half I can tell that they will be very successful and it will turn out very well. In my plan I said that I would use inspiration from Commeau and Armstrong and I think that this work shows how I’ve develop my work using their ideas throughout my sets. What I especially like about these is how well they came out and how it shows perfectly what I wanted to show; if a photo is blurred people can act themselves. What I did do however is tell people the photos will be blurred and took the photo in focus to show how natural and relaxed people really know that others can’t judge them. Although, what I could do better is get only the blue door in the photo and not the handle or the hinges, but I can easily crop them out in most photos. Also, I could try balance out the amount of blurred and focused photos I take as at the moment it seems that more photos are in focus; meaning I’ll have to take more blurred photos in my home set. In post-processing I’m going to change the saturation or the shadowing of the photo. This links to my topic ‘Changed’ because I’m showing how someone’s mood or personality changes when they know others that they don’t know are looking at them or judging them when compared to them being themselves due to the anonymity of the camera blur.
These are the photos from my school set that I'm considering to use for my final piece but it may change depending on what I do with my other photos as I'm going see what I can do with them.
This photo is experimentation with post-processing and how Bloomberg and Chanarin use things like black boxes to cover people’s eyes. I done this because it shows the anti-social side of people and if people don’t like a certain part of the photo I can black it out in post-processing. I think it looks quite good in some photos as it also shows how society can “black out” someone from seeing something or censor what they want to say. I may bring this into my final piece as it does look quite good in some photos. One I will improve on is the quality of the actual black box and neaten up the sides. However, it does add to the look to it; the scruffiness making it look as if its actually vandalism.
This is the other half of my prep work set and is considerably less than my other set. This was very successful like the other half of the set because they’re perfect examples of how I’ve developed my ideas with that work surrounding Commeau and Armstrong. What I especially like about this half is that it shows the awkwardness of people when you take photos of them and it shows how hard people try to not show themselves off to the public or their peers too much in fear of being mocked or pointed out by society. I took these photos by standing people behind a blank wall and using a very bright lamp. What I done successfully was balance out the exposure in the photo so it wasn’t too dark (under-exposure) but not too light (over-exposure), also I got in examples of Armstrong’s work and Commeau’s work. What I could’ve done better in this half is get more photos and maybe capture people’s emotions more.
